WHAT WE ARE ABOUT

Taft Avenue Community Church
Mission, Convictions, Values and Responsibilities, Vision

Mission:

“Equipping the church to reach the world for Christ.” (2 Timothy 1:6-14; 2:1-13; 4:17-18;Titus 2:10-14).

At Taft Avenue Community Church, we hold to four bedrock biblical convictions as well as four values and crucial responsibilities. For a lengthier discussion of our biblical convictions, see the EFCA doctrinal statement and our teaching convictions.

Convictions:

1. The sovereign grace and glory of God. God is the lead role player in all our lives, actively involved in His gracious sovereign ways (Isaiah 40-66). Our supreme desire is to please and glorify Him, recognizing that our ultimate happiness rests on living to His glory (Isa 45:5-7).

2. The Gospel. Knowing God comes from believing in Christ’s death, burial, and bodily resurrection
(John 1:12-13; 3:16; 20:30-31; 1 Cor. 15:1-4; 1 Cor 2:2).

3. Strong biblical exposition. The Bible is the catalyst for all we do. Accurate, passionate, and compassionate preaching and teaching doctrinal truth in order to compel love for God and our neighbors with a pure heart, good conscience and sincere faith is our goal (2 Timothy 4:1-8; 1Timothy 1:5; 3:15; John 17:17; 3 John 4; Romans 10:9-17).

4. A loving, passionate spirituality. Our lives are characterized by our relationship and closeness with Christ. We believe in the fellowship and work of the local church and believers who serve as loving friends with a lasting commitment to one another (John 17:3; 1 John 1:1-4; 3:15-18).

Our convictions are lived out in each member of TACC through four values and responsibilities.

Values and Responsibilities:

1. Worship - public and private. We value worshipping God as an end in itself. We understand and value the need for revival in the church and the central role prayer takes in that revival (Acts 1, 2). We value congregational participation in our worship services. Worship is not an entertainment driven gathering. Public worship includes preaching, singing, praying, confession, communion, and baptism (Rev. 4:11; 5:13).

2. Serving - In our church and outside our church community. God gives each of us different biblical gifts to be used in service to one another.  Our service will be varied and we value the freedom to minister in a variety of styles. We encourage each member to have a ministry to the church and outside the church.  We value the ministry of the entire body of Christ – to and for each other across the generations. We value serving our community to bring order, love, and gospel opportunities to the world (1 Cor. 12-14; James 1:27; Micah 6:6).

3. Changed People – Discipleship. We pursue growth in the knowledge of the Word, understanding its gospel centeredness, and that the Holy Spirit works through the Word to change us.  We encourage the practice of spiritual disciplines for growth in Christian maturity. We value committed loving relationships with fellow believers (2 Timothy 2:15; Hebrews 5:14; 2 Peter 3:18; Phil 4:1-3; John 13:34-35).

4. Mission – The World and Orange County. This church is Christ’s task force with a mission to make Christ and His glory known by our witness, lives, service, and worship  (2 Timothy 2:3; Matthew 28:16-20; John 17:4-6, 18).

Vision:

1. Passionate, biblically informed, gospel-centered spirituality. We desire to have a church body with a passionate spirituality, grounded in gospel vitality (Romans 12:1-2).

2. New believers. We desire a future where our members spread the gospel and new believers join our church for protection and discipleship (Matthew 28:16-20; 9:37-38).

3. Mission, Vision, Values and Leadership. We desire a future where all of the ministries at TACC are coordinated and working toward the same mission with trained and qualified leaders. This includes a strong and compassionate leadership community led by of our staff and elders (Hebrews 13:17).

4. Missions. We will plant churches to the end that more than 2% of the Adivasi people around the city of Siliguri, India are born-again believers active in local, indigenous, self-sustaining churches (Revelation 12:11; Matthew 24:14; 16:18; Acts 1:8).
