"Perfect Fishing"

Series: Follow Me Passage: Matthew 6:1–6:5

Matthew 6:1-5

"Perfect Fishing"

1. God is a merciful giver (Matthew 6:1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 16, 18, 19-21; John 3:16).

2. God loves to give to those with a pure heart; beware of losing the reward (Matthew 6:1-21; 2 Corinthians 8-9; 1 Corinthians 16).

a. Understand 100% mercy.
b. Give yourself to God.
c. Plan to give.
d. Forget your giving.

3. What rewards does God give?

4. Why are good and merciful givers good fishermen?

"Money is not the reward of love; that is why we call a man a mercenary if he marries a woman for the sake of her money. But marriage is the proper reward for a real love, and he is not mercenary for desiring it. What then is the reward which the Father gives the secret giver? It is neither public nor necessarily future. It is probably the only reward which genuine love wants when making a gift to the needy, namely to see the need relieved." - John R.W. Stott

"The proper rewards are not simply tacked on to the activity for which they are given, but are the activity itself in consummation."
- C.S. Lewis
