Advent Catechism #1:
Q: What is the significance that Jesus is both true God and true man?
A: Jesus is true God in order to conquer death by his power, and true man that he might die for us in the weakness of his flesh; the unity of Jesus’ divine and human natures into one person reveals God, allows fellowship with God and one another, and makes Him our high priest and mediator before God the Father.
Scripture: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. - John 1:1, 14 (NIV)
